HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: A day in Nicosia with a visit to the Turkish north for anyone who wants to understand the history and the explosive nature behind it!

• Don't forget your ID/passport!
• Near the border in northern Cyprus, you can pay everywhere with euros
• If you drive up in a hire car, it is best to park in the southern part, as almost all car hire companies prohibit crossing the border. It is best to park here (3 EUR per day)
• The bus connection Paphos - Nicosia is great with InterCity Buses for only 8 EUR one-way (pay in cash to the driver, it is best to have a suitable change with you)

• Büyük Han, old caravansaray with restaurants and shops 
• Bandabulia market, old market hall
• Büyük Hamam, still in use
• Rüstem Kitabevi, great bookshop with coffee
• Helvesan Market, a mini shop that ONLY sells Helva. Very simple and authentic, the helva is heavenly. The surrounding streets impressively show the run-down side of Nicosia 
• Samanbahce Evleri, old, still inhabited mini-settlement 
• Bereket Bakery, small street snack bar with lahmacun (small Turkish pizza with minced meat), family-run, where the locals eat lunch 
• Sabir Lokantasi, quaint little restaurant with a colourful mix of antique furniture and essentially one dish, köfte (meatballs) in pita bread
• Zahra Street, almost all the old colonial houses here have been renovated and converted into cafés and bars. You look out over a football pitch and behind it you can see the border with Greece. Next to the football pitch is a UN watchtower, bizarre!

• Venus Beach | Sandy beach, 2 sunbeds plus 1 umbrella 7.50 EUR, no restaurant, but Lidl directly opposite on the main road
• Sandy Beach | Sandy beach, beach club with sunbeds and restaurant
• Potima Beach | Pebble beach, great waves, beware of undercurrent
• Antasia Beach Club at Sodap Beach| chic bar/restaurant, 10 EUR per day per person (incl. towels), weekly membership 65 EUR 
• Geroskipou Beach | Public beach, much used by locals, some sunbeds for hire, many private, various beach bars in between, e.g. Ricco's Beach Bar (beautifully authentic, you sit in classic white and blue under trees, chickens and cats run freely through the tables) or Cabana Beach Bar (the cool place, fancy drinks, nice food, chillout music, Live-DJ on weekends during summer
• Mandria Beach | Pebble beach, water shoes essential, sunbeds are available free of charge at the beach bar

• Oniro by the Sea | at Edro Shipwreck, quite posh place, excellent food but pricey, booking highly recommended **closed for renovation at the moment**
• Porto Antico | also rather more expensive, you _cannot_ make a reservation there
• Sea Caves | really nice place by the water, service staff rather slow, food ok, but not spectacular
• Yialos Tavern by the Sea | really nice place by the water, simple taverna food
• Suite48 | Perfect place for a sundowner by the sea in Kato Paphos, food ok

• Casa Mespilea | Romantic, green courtyard in the centre of the old town, beautiful and fresh cuisine, great hosts Yioula and Costas (it's also a hotel), please say hello from Melanie and Oliver
• Muse | In the old town, beautiful views, great cocktails, young, chic crowd in the evening
• Palia Ilektriki | Not the most beautiful courtyard in the old town, but great cuisine, small family business, better to book in advance
• Onar | High quality Cypriot cuisine with a twist. Ordered dishes come when they are ready, not in a specific order, beautiful interior, in the pedestrian area of the old town
• Tweedie's | In Kissonerga, daily changing menu, everything freshly prepared, reservation essential
• Psarou Fish Tavern | In Chlorakas, great fresh fish that you choose yourself from the display case, many Cypriots as guests
• Hondros | Traditional tavern for fish or meat meze in the harbour areV, touristy, but very good quality, bring an appetite for a huge amount of meze
• Xiang Gong Chinese Restaurant | Very good Chinese Restaurant in Kato Paphos
• The Lodge | excellent meat dishes, great service, great ambience, but also correspondingly expensive, better to book in advance
• Trattoria La Vigna | very good Italian restaurant in the Coral Bay restaurant mile

• Samanbahce Evleri, alte, noch bewohnte Minisiedlung
• Bereket Bakery, kleiner Strassenimbiss mit Lahmacun (türkische kleine Pizza mit Hackfleisch), familiengeführt, hier essen die Einheimischen zu Mittag
• Sabir Lokantasi, uriges kleines Restaurant mit bunt gemischten antiken Möbeln und im Wesentlichen einem Gericht, Köfte (Fleischbällchen) im Pitabrot
• Zahra Street, fast alle alten Kolonialhäuser sind hier renoviert und zu Kaffees und Bars umgebaut. Man blickt auf einen Fussballplatz und dahinter sieht man direkt die Grenze zur griechischen Seite. Neben dem Fussballplatz ein UN-Wachturm, skurril!
